TRAVEL EDIT: Our Family Weekend at Parknasilla

TRAVEL EDIT: Our Family Weekend at Parknasilla

Last weekend, we packed up the car and headed to Parknasilla Resort & Spa in Sneem for a family getaway - and it did not disappoint. Nestled between the Kerry mountains and Kenmare Bay, this place is a dream for families looking to unwind, explore, and keep the kids entertained from morning to night.

We stayed in one of the Woodland Villas, and they were ideal for families. Spacious, comfy, and not too precious - so we didn’t have to stress about sticky fingers or toys everywhere. They’re tucked away in the woods, which gives you loads of privacy and a lovely peaceful vibe.

Parknasilla also has:

  • Hotel rooms and suites (some with sea views) &
  • Courtyard Lodges (2-bed self-catering)

Prices vary depending on the season, but you can usually find hotel rooms starting around €185 per night, with villas and lodges a bit more depending on size and time of year.

The main highlight for us was how much there was for the kids to do. There’s a huge range of activities for kids and we tried loads of them:

  • Owl Talk – The kids were totally captivated by Andy’s owls. Super educational and fun and they got to hold the owls at the end of the talk.
  • Slime Factory – Messy, colourful, and a big hit.
  • Boat Trip – We went out on Kenmare Bay to see the islands. Gorgeous views and a fun little adventure.
  • Kids Club – Free and running morning and evening. The kids loved it, and we got a bit of downtime.
  • Playground – Zipwire, swings, slides — all the essentials.
  • Swimming Pool – Indoors with amazing views. Great for a splash after a busy day.
  • Fairy Trail & Treasure Hunt – Magical woodland walks and clue-solving fun.
  • Island Walk – A lovely loop with stunning scenery.

Next time, we really want to do the kayaking on the bay & try out the pitch and putt.

Food Options:

There’s no shortage of places to eat at Parknasilla:

  • The Pygmalion Restaurant - Fancy dining with sea views and seasonal menus. If you stay in the hotel this is where you have breakfast.
  • The Doolittle Bar - Great for lunch, drinks, and live music.
  • Railway Express Café - Coffee, pastries, and light bites.
  • Tram Street Food - Near the playground, serving wood-fired pizzas every evening from 530pm.
  • Sacre Coeur - A really good family run fish restaurant in Sneem. 5 minute drive from Parknasilla. Would defo recommend.

On the way home, we stopped in Kenmare for brunch at Rookery Lane - and it was very good. Super cosy spot with lovely staff and a great menu. Perfect before the long drive back.

Parknasilla is a total winner for families. It’s got the perfect mix of nature, comfort, and non-stop fun for the kids. Whether you’re out kayaking, hunting for fairies, or just chilling in the villa, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back before you’ve even left.

We’ll definitely be booking again - and next time, we’re trying everything!
